The American Rodeo East Regional at Alltech Arena will feature eight rodeo disciplines with up to 125 top athletes -including world renowned pros, everyday cowboys/cowgirls and even local competitors putting it all on the line in hopes of earning a spot at The American Rodeo Championship Weekend where they could win a life-changing $2 million bonus! Singer-songwriter and creative community builder, Jeri Katherine Howell, welcomes people of all ages and levels of singing experience to Come Sing x City Parks, a seasonal, place-based folk music program that sparks creativity, connection and civic engagement through outdoor community singing circles in Frankfort, Kentucky. Come Sing will meet at the Leslie Morris Park (Fort Hill) Gippy Graham Shelter on April 15, May 13 and June 17 and at the Cove Spring Park & Nature Preserve (Lower) shelter on July 15, August 12 and September 16 — all from 6 to 8 PM. Urban Forest Initiative presents CANOPY CON 26, Kentucky's premier conference on urban and community forestry. Join us Thursday, April 23, 8:30am–4:00pm at the Fayette County Extension Office.

This year's theme, "Healthy Trees – Healthy People," invites us to explore the ecological and economic benefits trees provide, focusing on the connections between urban tree canopy, equity, and human mental and physical health.

You'll hear from nationally recognized experts, engage in hands-on field demonstrations, and discover practical strategies for translating research into action.

Luke Schneider is a Nashville based pedal steel guitarist who has worked with a variety of artists including Margo Price, Orville Peck, S.G. Goodman, William Tyler, Lilly Hiatt, and Peter One. Urban Forest Initiative, along with the Department of Economics in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, present a lecture by Dr. Geoffrey Donovan (U.S. Forest Service, ret.) on the surprising health benefits of trees.

Dr. Donovan's talk is titled "Using Natural Experiments to Investigate the Relationship Between Urban Trees and Health."

About Dr. Donovan

Dr. Donovan received his PhD is forest economics from Colorado State University in 2001. He then worked for 23 years as an economist for the USDA Forest Service in Alaska and Oregon. Currently he’s the owner of Ash and Elm Consulting, which is focused on making the business case for urban trees.

His primary research focus has been quantifying the benefits of urban trees. These have ranged from intuitive benefits—reduced summertime cooling costs and increased home values, for example—to less intuitive benefits such as crime reduction. He has worked extensively on the relationship between trees and public health finding that mothers with trees around their homes are less likely to have underweight babies, and when trees are killed by an invasive pest, more people die from cardiovascular and lower-respiratory diseases. Currently, he is focusing on how exposure to plant diversity may protect against a range of immune diseases.

Woodford Theatre Young Artists (WTYA) is an audition-based, education-focused theatre training program, teaching students 10-18 about all aspects of theatre arts from pre-production to performance, with a curriculum designed to develop and sustain the whole theatre artist. The students participate in weekly training taught by theatre professionals, with performance opportunities both locally and regionally. Guest artists with specific areas of expertise are utilized to broaden the students’ learning opportunities.

WTYA’s 2026 Showcase will include a variety of musical theatre numbers covering a wide range of styles and time periods, singing, dancing, and scene work specifically designed to showcase the students’ progress throughout the season. There’s something for everyone – you won’t want to miss this family-friendly theatrical event!

What's On Your Plate: Story Workshop with JSP Artist-in-Residence Ceirra Evans

Share stories and make art over soup, cornbread, and good company with Josephine Sculpture Park Artist-in-Residence, Ceirra Evans! Once we fill our bowls, Ceirra will facilitate a group story circle that invites us to share a food memory. Then, Ceirra will guide us through her "What's On Your Plate?" visual art project with a variety of materials. Participants are invited to contribute non-perishable or canned food items, which Ceirra will donate to the Emergency Community Food Pantry of Franklin County.
