Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton was taken to the emergency room this morning.
Officials are calling the action “purely a precautionary measure.”
According to a statement released by FCPS spokesperson Lisa Deffendall Wednesday, Shelton was driven to the emergency room shortly after 10:30 this morning after becoming light-headed and nauseous.
The statement says the symptoms came on suddenly, which prompted the trip to the hospital.
The news comes on the heels of a challenging week for Shelton’s office, which is currently grappling with a series of allegations made by the district’s budget director, Julane Mullins. She says financial mismanagement is to blame for the district’s budget crisis. Shelton says an audit by the state will exonerate his office and the district of any wrongdoing.
