While the arrival of summer can be exciting, it also ushers in what the medical community calls “trauma season” when warm weather and increase in outdoor activities results in a higher number of unintentional injuries requiring emergency care. As many of these injuries are potentially life-threatening, there is also an increase in the need for blood transfusions, so keeping up the blood supply becomes even more important.
