The yearly blood competition between the Kentucky Blood Center and MEDIC Regional Blood Center in Tennessee was started to help boost the blood supply for both states leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Eric Lindsey, Director of Media and Branding with the Kentucky Blood Center, says supplies tend to dwindle this time of year because people are traveling or have busy schedules during the holidays. But the need doesn’t decrease. Lindsey said we often think of blood being needed in the ER, but everyday needs go far beyond emergency care.
Statistics show one in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime.
Donors will get a Big Blue Crush long-sleeve shirt and a coupon for a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream, and you’ll get your name in the hat for two tickets to the Kentucky-Louisville football game at Kroger Field on Saturday, Nov. 30th.
KBC leads the series 21-14-1
