CSX says a failed wheel bearing on a train car caused a derailment that sparked a chemical fire in a small Kentucky town. The accident happened Wednesday and prompted home evacuations. The company said on Sunday that crews were finishing up restoration of the site just north of Livingston. All 16 railcars involved in the derailment were removed from the site. Crews were able to remove the spilled chemical and 2,500 tons of impacted soil and replace it with clean material. CSX says crews were expected to finish repairs on the tracks and restore service on the rail line.

Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear has won reelection to a second term in Kentucky. Beshear secured another significant statewide victory Tuesday in an increasingly red state. It could serve as a model for other Democrats on how to thrive politically heading into next year’s presidential election. Beshear defeated Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Beshear stressed his stewardship over record economic growth and his handling of multiple disasters, from tornadoes and floods to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beshear repeatedly hammered Cameron for his support of the state’s sweeping abortion ban, which makes no exceptions for victims of rape or incest.

Sam Ball, an All-American offensive tackle at Kentucky who was a member of two Super Bowl teams with the Baltimore Colts, has died. He was 79. The school announced Ball’s death in his hometown of Henderson, Kentucky, on Monday after receiving word from his family. No cause of death was given. As a Wildcats senior, Ball earned All-SEC and consensus All-America honors before becoming the Colts' 15th overall selection in the 1966 NFL draft. He started in Super Bowl III and won Super Bowl V in 1971 with Baltimore's 1970 squad.

Arabian Knight is the early 3-1 favorite for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic this weekend at Santa Anita. The two-day world championships drew 205 horses including 59 from five foreign countries to the track in Arcadia. Santa Anita is hosting for a record 11th time on the 40th anniversary of the event. Arabian Knight drew the No. 12 post in the 13-horse field for the 1 1/4-mile race. Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo will break from the No. 1 post at early odds of 7-2. Friday will feature five races for 2-year-olds. Saturday's card includes nine races as Santa Anita hosts the world championships for a record 11th time.
