Ever since announcing his bid for mayor, UK associate vice president of campus services and public safety Anthany Beatty has been working double duty.
That is, opting not to take a leave of absence during campaign season.
It’s an option permitted under University of Kentucky rules, which allow employees to run for office if they can prove that no university time or resources will be used and the employee is able to fulfill his or her duties on campus.
Beatty is running to unseat incumbent Mayor Jim Gray in November.
He says, for now, campaigning has mostly been limited to nights and weekends, but he plans to use vacation time beginning in October in the run-up to the election.
