Expanding and growing partnerships will be the key to UK HealthCare’s success going forward… that’s according to Board of Trustees chair Oliver Gannon.
Gannon was among the UK officials who attended a Health Care Retreat Thursday at Keeneland. He said, with an influx of newly insured patients seeking services and efforts underway to jumpstart the economy of Eastern Kentucky, the board believes it’s the perfect time to extend the university’s reach.
"We've been talking for some time about moving out into the state, seeing and being seen. After all we are the University of Kentucky," Gannon said.
Next month the board will head out to Hazard for a meeting, where the HealthCare committee will tour Appalachian Regional Hospital and hear updates on what’s called the Appalachian Regional Initiative.
"It's a $30M federally-funded program that affects about a hundred schools in the region. It's designed to help them bring in new and innovative technology into the classrooms, so we're going to have teachers come into our committee meeting and be a part of the committee," he explained.
Over the last decade, UK HealthCare has gone from a $300M dollar organization to a $1B dollar industry today.
