Senator Rand Paul said he delivered a letter from President Donald Trump to the Russian government while he was in Moscow.

Wednesday, Paul tweeted that he was "honored to deliver a letter from President Trump to President Vladimir Putin’s administration. The letter emphasized the importance of further engagement in various areas including countering terrorism, enhancing legislative dialogue and resuming cultural exchanges.”

Paul said he made the trip to the Russian capital to encourage diplomacy amid tense relations between Moscow and the U.S. Earlier this week he invited Russian lawmakers to visit Washington.

U.S. intelligence agencies say Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 elections and that they are attempting to do the same this November.
