Lexington extends emergency winter weather plan

Associated Press

With extreme cold temperatures in the forecast, the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has extended Lexington's Emergency Winter Weather Plan through Monday morning, Jan. 26.

The plan provides a coordinated response when extreme cold weather creates an additional immediate need to assist people experiencing homelessness in Lexington, with the hope that they will be encouraged to seek shelter.

A press release states that under the activated plan, emergency shelters operate with additional capacity and relax previous restrictions. Free fixed-route rides are provided to those shelters through Lextran.

A temporary winter shelter that creates 216 additional beds for adult men and women will operate through March and is located at 1306 Versailles Road.
