According to reporting by Axios, the eight-figure donation from Musk is going to the Fight for Kentucky super PAC, which supports Morris' bid. The contribution amounts to Musk's largest single donation in a Senate campaign.
We need more and more people that are coming from the outside because we know those are the folks that are going to get results for the country.Nate Morris, U.S. Senate candidate
Morris told Fox News he believes Musk identifies with his background as a business-oriented political outsider.
"We need more and more people that are coming from the outside because we know those are the folks that are going to get results for the country," Morris said. "I think that's what Elon Musk saw in our candidacy, that we're an entrepreneur, a job creator. I've created thousands of jobs in my career and I think that's what the country needs right now."
Morris, a vocal critic of McConnell, says immigration enforcement is the most important issue facing Kentucky — and he's calling for a moratorium on all new immigration to the U.S. until all undocumented immigrants have been deported.
Morris is running in a crowded Republican field that includes former Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Congressman Andy Barr. Barr's campaign manager has responded to Musk's sizable gift, saying "The more money Nate Morris spends, the more Kentuckians get to see him and the worse he does." Morris has given millions to his own campaign, as he seeks to increase his name recognition.
Meanwhile, Musk has signaled support for Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, a noted Trump opponent on several fronts, but doesn't appear to have given Massie the same kind of financial boost.
