Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie at the center of latest Trump-Musk clash

Associated Press

A Kentucky congressman has found himself squarely in the middle of the feud between President Donald Trump and tech mogul Elon Musk.

Kentucky Fourth District Congressman Thomas Massie's outspoken opposition to elements of the president's signature tax and spending bill first earned him harsh social media posts from Trump, then the threat of a primary, followed by attack ads from a Trump-aligned SUPER PAC.

Now, billionaire Elon Musk—whom Massie has praised for his work with the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE—is signaling he would throw his financial support behind Massie if primaried, setting up the first potential Trump versus Musk election battle.

Massie responded by reposting the story on X with the comment "An interesting thing just happened."

The back-and-forth escalated quickly with Trump taking another swing at Musk Tuesday.

"We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know? You know what Doge is? Doge is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible?" Trump mused.

Massie has said he opposed the priority GOP omnibus bill because it would tack trillions onto the nation's growing debt over the next decade—the same reason Musk has criticized the measure.
