Back in the top seat in London, Mayor Randle Weddle urges council to work with him despite impeachment

London city council

London Mayor Randall Weddle is back in office after his ouster was reversed by a circuit court ruling.

I hold no grudges in what you've done.

In brief comments at the start of a city council meeting, Weddle offered an olive branch to the council that voted to impeach him and urged city leaders to return their attention to doing the people's business.

"You've done what you've done and the courts have overturned your ruling. I'm just asking now that you guys start working with me, and I with you, and let's move the city of London forward," he said. "I hold no grudges in what you've done."

The statement marks a sharp contrast from earlier comments Weddle had made about the council's decision, which he called the "greatest coup that we have seen in southeast Kentucky."

Weddle had been removed from office over accusations that he declined to publish an ordinance, agreed to a $5 million mortgage on behalf of the city without council approval, and did not fill vacant seats on London's ethics commission.

As for the council burying the hatchet, that appears unlikely with an attorney for the council saying it plans to appeal the ruling that returned Weddle to office.
