'Intersections' exhibit to span 250 years of Lexington history

Lexington History Museum

The Lexington History Museum is opening a new exhibit meant to encapsulate the 250-year history of Lexington.

The ambitious exhibit is laid out as a timeline that starts in 1775 and tracks major developments in the city.

Dr. Mandy Higgins, executive director of the Lexington History Museum, says creators of the intersections exhibit tried out lots of approaches.

"So we batted around a lot of ideas and kept coming back to these stories of people and how individual Lexingtonians, who maybe we know and maybe we don't know, made these really incredible contributions to the city that are part of our daily life, and we don't really think about it," she told WUKY.

The contributions of those individuals will be presented in clusters along the timeline and added to as the exhibit continues. Visitors will be able to view unique artifacts, including a game worn UK men's basketball championship jersey, hear audio clips from early media personalities, and see the creation of Rupp Arena through custom View-Master-style displays.

Intersections will run through July 6, 2026 and is included in the $10 regular museum admission at 210 North Broadway.
