Rain began to fall this past Saturday morning, causing severe flooding statewide. Now, Governor Andy Beshear says the focus has shifted to making sure everyone has shelter. Two Kentuckians died this week from hypothermia.

“It’s cold right now. It’s going to get dangerously cold tonight and into tomorrow. So, if we can show tonight’s minimum temperature, again getting down in the teens or the single digits in a number of parts of Kentucky. A little bit warmer thankfully in the east it looks like but the windchills across much of Kentucky is going to be in the single digits or the negative,” Beshear said.

The Governor is asking you to stay home if you can and be patient.

“So, to everybody out there, again, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a long tunnel. We’ve got to get pretty much through this weekend, but we’ll get through it and we’re going to get through it together.”

Temperatures aren’t expected to rise until this weekend.

State and local officials are asking that you stay off the roads Wednesday and Thursday if at all possible. If you do need to drive, remove snow and ice from your vehicle, make sure your gas tank is full, bring an emergency supply kit, slow down, and allow plenty of distance between you and the car in front of you.

The Governor said the number of fatalities caused by severe weather since Saturday remains at 14.

Nearly $120,000 has been donated to the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund. Beshear said the priority will be to help families pay for the funerals of the victims. You can give at Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund
