Megan Moloney is the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Transylvania University.
“When you carve a pumpkin, what's the worst part? It's cutting it open and cleaning it out so you can get it ready for carving.”
Moloney said they’ve decided to take care of that part. “So, we've got drills that are getting in there and loosening up the pumpkins. We've got students that are then going in and scooping them out.”
Dozens of Transylvania University students, staff, and volunteers spent Sunday morning, cleaning out hundreds of pumpkins that were carved later in the day and placed on the steps leading up to Transy's administration building. This is the 14th year that rows of jack-o'-lanterns have illuminated that entrance.
Emily Blair is a senior and on the dance team at Transylvania. She calls Halloween week one of the best times of year on campus and it kicks off with Pumpkin Mania.
“It's just a great experience. It's great for the community. We get a lot of people to come out for it and it's really awesome to see everybody just come together, carve a pumpkin.” Emily smiled, covered in pumpkin pulp and seeds. “It’s amazing to look at the steps whenever they light it up. It's, it's a very special experience.”
The pumpkins will be on display through Halloween night which is this Thursday.
