For the last decade and a half an important part of Juneteenth activities in Lexington involves a ceremony at African Cemetery #2 on East Seventh Street, which contains the graves of more than a hundred military veterans; some of them are former slaves who served in the U.S. Colored Troops of the American Civil War.
