High Schoolers Launch 'Serial'- Inspired Podcast On Driving

Lamplighter Media Productions

Journalism students at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, in partnership with WUKY, have launched a podcast examining a host of teen driving issues.  Alan Lytle discusses the project, dubbed TORCH, with PLD Journalism Teacher Wendy Turner, and Pam Stravitz, the editor-in-chief of the Lamplighter; the school's newspaper.

Pam told WUKY as soon as she heard the first episode of the popular series Serial with Sarah Koenig, she knew she wanted to do something just like that.  She took her idea to her teacher Wendy Turner who enthusiastically pitched the idea to WUKY News Director Alan Lytle.  The series tackles tough issues, including the motor-vehicle related deaths of PLD students, as well as the lighter side of little "fender benders" and misunderstandings in the parking lot.

Three episodes of TORCH have already been produced and plans are in the works for more.
