Gov. Andy Beshear says that he has deployed more Kentucky National Guard members to 30 health care facilities, beginning this week. A total of 445 guard members will provide assistance at hospitals and food banks. The Democratic governor says that the deployment “is not going to be solely voluntary” and that some people will receive military orders to help with the pandemic-related efforts. Gov. Andy Beshear says a record surge of COVID-19 cases has renewed concerns that Kentucky’s hospitals could become overrun with virus patients. He says the omicron variant is fueling the new surge. The governor also reported significant coronavirus outbreaks in some of the state’s prisons. Beshear reported 9,836 new virus cases Thursday. It's the state’s highest one-day total since the pandemic began. He says the statewide test positivity rate has reached 23.67%. He warned that virus-related hospital admissions are starting to increase rapidly in Kentucky.

Gov. Andy Beshear says that Kentucky has reported a record-breaking 6,915 new coronavirus cases. Roughly 20% of Tuesday’s cases were in Kentuckians 18 and under. Kentucky also reported a record 21.74% positivity rate.
