More high-profile politicians are lining up behind the candidates in Kentucky’s headline-grabbing Senate race.
Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney may not have bested President Barack Obama in 2012, but he won handily in Kentucky with 60 percent of the vote. And soon he’ll be throwing his weight behind Sen. Minority Leader McConnell at a fundraiser in Lexington on October 2.
The event will be hosted by coal magnate Joe Craft and his fiancé, former Bush administration appointee Kelly Knight, with help from Don and Mira Ball.
Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes, who has aligned herself with former president and family friend Bill Clinton, racked up another endorsement from his administration. In a news release, Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright calls Grimes “one of the brightest young leaders in America.”
McConnell also has the support of a former secretary of state in Condoleezza Rice, who headlined a fundraiser for him at Rupp Arena in March in advance of the May 20 Republican primary.
