UK Basketball Roundup: men's and women's teams victorious in Christmas week contests

Cason Wallace scored a career-high 27 points to help No. 19 Kentucky beat Florida A&M 88-68 on Wednesday night. Earlier in the day Robyn Benton poured in 22 points en route to a 95-86 Wildcats win over Ohio in Memorial Coliseum.

The 6-foot-4 freshman guard also had four steals and nine assists. Wallace scored the first seven points of the second half for the Wildcats (8-3) as they took a 69-48 lead. The Rattlers (2-8) answered
with a 14-0 run, cutting the deficit to seven points on Jaylen Bates’s 3-pointer.

Wallace steadied the Wildcats with a jumper and an assist on Antonio Reeves’ dunk. Bates led the Rattlers with 21 points and Dimingus Stevens added 13 points.

The Cats will have a few days off to go home and spend some time with their families before returning to campus next week. Kentucky’s next
game is the Southeastern Conference opener, which is at Missouri on Dec. 28.

Earlier in the day in Memorial Coliseum:

Five players scored in double figures as the Kentucky women’s basketball team beat Ohio University 95-86 on Wednesday.

Robyn Benton led the Cats with 20 points, while Ajae Petty added 15 points and eight rebounds. Blair Green, Eniya Russell and Jada Walker each had 14 points for UK. Walker added eight assists and five rebounds.

Kentucky returns to action on Dec. 29, visiting Missouri for the SEC opener. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.
