Louisville has been eliminated as a finalist in the search for a new home for the Sundance Film Festival. But a city bordering the commonwealth is still in the running.

Film aficionados in Kentucky had hoped to see the celebrated Sundance Film Festival make the move to Louisville in 2027, but this week, the Sundance Institute unveiled a whittled down list of finalists and Kentucky’s largest city did not make the cut.

The three remaining cities on the shortlist are Boulder, Salt Lake City, and a close neighbor in Ohio — Cincinnati.

The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the U.S. It will stay put in in Park City and Salt Lake City for the next two years.

A final decision on the eventual move is expected in early 2025.
