While limited access to medical marijuana won’t become a reality in Kentucky until January 1, 2025, recreational dispensaries in Ohio – including eight in Cincinnati – are now open for business.
That’s following the passage of Issue 2 last November, which legalized recreational marijuana statewide. While the legislation stated that Certificates of Operation must be available by Sept. 7, businesses with dual-licenses have received the go-ahead a month ahead of the deadline.
The new law permits adults 21 and over to buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and to grow up to six plants per individual or a dozen plants per household.
The availability of legal recreational marijuana on Kentucky’s border could lead to more questions surrounding enforcement of the commonwealth’s laws when the General Assembly reconvenes in January.
