Elbows are getting sharper as Gov. Beshear and VP nominee J.D. Vance talk Kentucky

AP

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Republican Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance are trading barbs in the media — as Beshear’s national profile is on the rise amid VP speculation.

Beshear has taken Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy, to task for his representation of Appalachia, now famously saying, "He ain't from here." It didn't take long for the phrase to make its way into memes and onto t-shirts.

Now, Vance is responding, knocking the Democrat's background as the son of former Governor Steve Beshear, and suggesting the younger Beshear "inherited the governorship" from his father. The audio of Vance's reaction aired during a CNN interview with Kaitlan Collins Monday night.

Beshear was asked about the tug-of-war and labeled Vance quote a "phony."

"I mean, he first says that that Donald Trump is like Hitler and and now he's acting like he's Lincoln," the typically restrained Beshear responded. "The problem with J.D. Vance is he has no conviction. But I guess this running mate has 34."

Beshear's name has been tossed around as a potential running mate for the eventual Democratic presidential nominee. While he's maintained he likes and wants to keep his job as governor, Beshear has sent out other signals — launching a PAC going on the offensive against Vance, and strongly defending Vice President Kamala Harris in recent interviews on national news outlets.
