Shane Ragland is alleged to have assaulted his mother and another woman earlier this week.

Ragland was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his mother and another woman, running them over with his motorized wheelchair and threatening to shoot them with a gun.

In 2002, Ragland had been convicted in the murder of Trent DiGiuro, an offensive lineman at UK. DiGiuro had been shot outside his home in 1994, but the case went unsolved until 2000, when Ragland’s ex-girlfriend came forward.

Ragland was sentenced to 30 years in prison, but the murder conviction was overturned by the Kentucky Supreme Court after key evidence supporting the conviction was found to be unreliable. Ragland then pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter, sentenced to time already served, and was released after three days.

Following Ragland’s Tuesday arrest, he remains in Franklin County Regional Jail as of Thursday morning.
