"We are so excited to get this work underway finally, right? There's been a lot of interest in this project and quite honestly, Phoenix Park has needed renovated for many years," Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said Thursday.
Gorton says the one-acre park in central downtown will be getting a facelift over the next year. New features will include a performance stage area, new play equipment, adult bench swings, metal shade structures, and what’s known as an “interactive fog area.”
"It'll be a first for Lexington Parks, and we're so glad that it's going to be right here in downtown Lexington," Monica Conrad with Parks & Recreation explains. "It's not as intensive as a spray ground or a splash pad, but it does allow users really to experience the cooling benefits of water in a dry play space with the addition of LED lighting, the effect can provide a really unique experience for park users to enjoy the space, either early in the evening or during events.
A ribbon-cutting is expected in in spring 2025.
