'Like a family reunion': Kentucky Book Festival returns this weekend

kybookfestival.org

The 42nd annual Kentucky Book Festival is right around the corner. The Saturday event brings together more than 150 authors.

The beloved celebration of reading, writing, and publishing takes place every fall. This year, the free event is returning to Joseph-Beth Booksellers, where book-lovers and authors can connect one-on-one as readers get a chance to meet with well-established Kentucky talent and hear from upcoming authors.

Book festival director Katerina Stoykova says there’s a unique sense of affinity among those who participate.

"Author Frank X Walker said that it's a family reunion," she says. "I personally think that community is what makes this event special and also that there is something for everyone. Whatever genre you like, whatever type of book you're looking for, you will find it at the book festival."

The lineup includes names like J.R. Ward, Silas House, and Crystal Wilkinson.

Among the events are presentations and talks on memoir writing – that one will feature former Gov. Paul Patton; A is for Affrilachia, a conversation including Frank X Walker; and sessions on creating podcasts, earning an MFA, bilingual writing, and a host of children’s activities.

The festival runs from 10-5 Saturday at Joseph-Beth.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
