Six new affordable housing units in Lexington's east end neighborhood ready for rent

Samantha Lederman

City and community leaders were on hand this morning to cut the ribbon on six new affordable housing units in Lexington’s East End neighborhood. The townhomes, located at the corner of Race and Third streets, represent the latest effort to address the city’s shortage of affordable housing.

The townhomes which range in size from 1300 to 1350 square feet, feature covered porches and patios, off-street parking, granite counter tops, dishwashers, walk-in closets, and laminate wood flooring.

The $1.6 M dollar project is a collaboration between the LHA and local contractor Bishop Carter, owner of Elaine Allen LLC construction. It’s one of several developments the Housing Authority has built without federal or local dollars.

Rent is based on low-income housing tax credit maximum rent limits. Housing vouchers are also accepted.

Applications for the new townhomes are being accepted through Friday, September 15th.

Listeners might remember Lederman and her English accent from when she was a morning news anchor on WUKY from 1999 to 2001.
