Paul told ABC News Monday that a member of his staff was "brutally attacked in broad daylight" and thanked first responders for their quick action.
While the staffer has not been identified, a police report shows officers responded Saturday around 5:15 PM to a call about a stabbing on the 1300 block of H Street Northeast in the district.
According to a pair of witnesses, the suspect "popped out of the corner" and stabbed the staffer multiple times as both were walking, leading to a struggle before both fled.
Once arrested, the suspect was charged with assault with the intent to kill, and wielding a knife, in connection with the attack.
