LFCHD begins vaccinating kids under five years old

Karyn Czar

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is now available for the youngest among us, children ages six months to five years, at the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. Karyn Czar reports.

Beginning Wednesday, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for kids between the ages of six months and five years old is now available at the FCHD. Health Department spokesman Kevin Hall says more than 13.5 million children in the U.S. have been infected with COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, and although most experience mild symptoms, more than 42,000 have been hospitalized and at least 1,240 have died. He calls the vaccine the best line of defense against the virus and its possible long term effect.

Side effects of the COVID vaccine for children are similar to those seen in adults like soreness and redness where the shot was given and the possibility the child won't feel well for a day or two or get a low fever. You can schedule an appointment by contacting the the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department at 859-288-2483.
