Excited crowd greets Kentucky Three-Day Event contenders

D.Lee Studio

Competition is officially underway at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The First Horse Inspection for the Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event CCI 5* presented by Mars Equestrian took place Wednesday afternoon under blue skies and brilliant sunshine, and in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. 45 horses were presented to the Ground Jury and all of them were accepted and now move forward to the dressage phase.

Local rider and 5* first timer Woods Baughman is relieved to have the first hurdle under his belt with his horse C’Est La Vie.

"I'm really excited to get everything going," he said. "There is a lot of people here and he was feeling fresh and I think we have a good shot at having fun."

As reigning US National 4* champions they also have a pretty good chance to do well, and there will be a large contingent of family, friends and fans cheering them on this weekend including the entire barn crew from Champagne Run where he started his eventing career.

Gates open daily at 7am.
