UK celebrates National Donate Life Month with flag-raising ceremony
106,000 people are on the national waiting list for an organ transplant. University of Kentucky health officials are calling on people to meet the need // ‘save a life afterlife’ // sign up to give once they’re gone // consider becoming a donor during National Donate Life Month. WUKY’s Arlo Barnette reports.
UK HealthCare and Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates raised a “Donate Life” flag at 10:08 this morning, to highlight that one organ donor can help save eight lives.
Donation and Transplant Committee chair Dr. Ashlee Montgomery-Yates told WKYT UK HealthCare performed close to 250 organ transplants in the past year.
You can sign up to become an organ donor when registering for a new driver’s license. You can also talk to your primary care physician, or go to the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry website anytime, at donatelifeky.org.
