Beshear vetoes measure seeking early end to COVID emergency

Karyn Czar

As expected, Governor Andy Beshear vetoes SJR 150, a resolution that would end Kentucky’s COVID state of emergency declaration one month early. Karyn Czar reports from Frankfort.

Beshear says his main concern would be the loss of federal dollars for additional SNAP benefits during the pandemic. That funding is only available to states that have a declaration of emergency.

A constitutional majority vote of 51 in the House, and 20 in the Senate is needed to override the Governor’s veto. Republicans currently enjoy super majorities in both chambers.
