Beshear: Omicron causing COVID test positivity rate to soar

Associated Press

Gov. Andy Beshear says Kentucky reported nearly 30,000 new COVID-19 cases last week. He says that's twice the previous week’s total as omicron causes record numbers of people to test positive for the virus.

Beshear said Monday that the statewide test positivity rate has soared to 20.7%. He says omicron has hit the state harder in terms of escalating cases than anything seen since the pandemic began.

The governor stressed the need for people to self-isolate once they’re infected to prevent an even more dramatic spread of the virus.
