GOP lawmakers offer critical assessment of Kentucky State
Some key Republican lawmakers have offered a critical assessment of Kentucky State University as they review requests for help in shoring up its finances. But they acknowledged the school's historic role in higher education. Senate President Pro Tem David Givens said Monday that the historically Black university has work to do to win over some of his Republican colleagues, as the school struggles to overcome its problems. Givens said some lawmakers have concerns about continuing to fund “an institution that hasn't taken care of itself.” KSU says it looks forward to working with legislators to achieve the best possible outcome.
