Beshear, Lawmakers Reschedule State Of Commonwealth Speech To Thursday

AP File Photo

Kentucky's governor has delayed his budget speech to lawmakers. Gov. Andy Beshear says the 24-hour delay is in response to a mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol Wednesday.

In a social media video, the Democratic governor referred to the violent protesters as “domestic terrorists." Kentucky's Republican House speaker called the protests “despicable." The state's Senate president referred to it as “tragic." Beshear says he and the legislative leaders agreed to delay his speech until Thursday evening. Beshear had been scheduled to deliver his State of the Commonwealth speech Wednesday evening. He will deliver it virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
