Mary Todd Lincoln House Continues To Set Attendance Records

Mary Todd Lincoln House

The Executive Director of the Mary Todd Lincoln House says last fiscal year was their best ever.  Gwen Thompson says 13,500 visitors spent time touring the restored childhood home of the former First Lady.  That represents a 10% increase from the previous year.

"We've actually had record visitation the last three years in a row," Thompson told WUKY.  She credited a number of factors for their recent success; "the ability to disseminate information via the internet has really helped us increase awareness, we also rank very high on Trip Advisor on things to do in Lexington, we'vealso  been trying to feature programming that's specifically targeted to Lexingtonians, and that's really increased our awareness as well," Thompson explained.

The House is hosting a Special Topic Tour highlighting the friendship betweenMrs. Lincoln and African American seamstress Elizabeth Keckleythis Wednesday night.  Information on that is available at mlthouse.org.
