Child Abuse Prevention Advocates Planting Pinwheels For Awareness Campaign

Brennan Fielder

Blue and White are colors closely associated with the city of Lexington for obvious reasons, but as Brennan Fielder reports, this month several local groups hope the color combo takes on extra meaning.

April is national child abuse prevention month and local agencies in Fayette County have gotten together to plant pinwheels to bring awareness to the issue.

Melynda Jamison, executive director of Lexington’s Court Appointed Special Advocates, better known as CASA, says Kentucky was recently ranked the second worst state for child abuse and neglect.  What’s more, she says victims of child abuse often become the abusers later in life.

Pinwheels can be seen in large numbers in front of the Raising Canes on Nicholasville Road where the press event occurred on Wednesday, as well as other other areas throughout the Lexington community.
