Living Arts & Science Center Shoots For The Stars With New Additions

Lexington's Living Arts & Science Center celebrated its grand re-opening Monday.

An idea that sparked in the minds of the center’s board of directors around eight years ago, the expansion will allow the learning hub to accommodate a rapidly growing audience and list of programs. The crown jewel, according to Kristin Voskuhl with the LASC, is an addition new to the city.

"I think the big thing that everyone is excited to see is our new planetarium," she said. "We've always had a little inflatable planetarium that we would blow up in our gallery space, but now we have the real deal."

An exhibit tying in with the space theme is currently running. The center, an 18,000 square foot facility attached to the historic Kinkead House, will host new offerings – including a weekend program dubbed Discovery Saturdays. Hours will also be expanded.

"It's a real inspiration for the city. It's a real inspiration for the north end, the east end of Lexington," he says.

Admission to the planetarium will be $4. The center will now be open six days a week.
