Differences over a proposed minimum wage increase have prompted Vice Mayor Steve Kay to leave his position on the board of Commerce Lexington.
The Lexington Herald-leader reports Kay resigned in part because of the chamber’s opposition to the proposal, which will be up for discussion by the Urban County Council in August.
A supporter of the idea, Kay said he did not feel comfortable being a part of the board but will continue to collaborate with Commerce Lexington. The resignation took place months ago, only coming to light following Kay’s motion to move the minimum wage debate out of committee and bring it before the full council.
Commerce Lexington president Bob Quick said he regrets the vice mayor’s decision but will move forward with partnerships with the city.
