The US Supreme Court was the subject of a recent lecture at the University of Kentucky.
Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin gave the 2015 Pritchard Lecture at UK’s Young Library Wednesday. He spoke at length about the US Supreme Court, which he has covered for CNN and the New Yorker since the Rehnquist era. In particular, he focused on the court’s partisan shifts, both from presidential appointments, and previously conservative justices' disillusionment with the current Republican Party. He said one of his favorite times of year is the last day of the Supreme Court’s session, as it’s typically when the major decisions come out.
“I know people are looking to CNN to figure out what happened and what it meant, so I love the immediacy of CNN, but I also like the opportunity to report in-depth in the New Yorker and to write books, which are, I guess, the thing I’m most proud of," he said.
One of Toobin’s most well known books is The Nine, which explores the personal dynamics between the supreme court justices, while his latest work, The Oath, focuses on President Obama’s relationship with the Roberts Court.
