McConnell And Barr Call State Of The Union A Missed Opportunity

Representatives from Kentucky weigh in on President Obama’s State of the Union address.

Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell and Congressman Andy Barr, both Republicans, were quick to criticize President Obama’s speech last night.  McConnell felt the President’s address made it look like he was running for office again and said nothing would be accomplished in the final years of Obama’s administration is wasn’t willing to work with a Republican Congress. “Much of what he did tonight, you know, new taxes, new spending is sort of the same old thing that we’ve heard over the last six years.  What I had hoped was that the President was going to focus on areas of possible agreement.  There are few; trade, tax reform, infrastructure.  Those are the things we need to be concentrating on and let the next election occur in 2016.”

Barr sent out a statement saying Obama’s address was a missed opportunity, stating “the President doubled down on the same divisive policies of higher taxes to pay for bigger government, bypassing Congress through unilateral executive orders and costly regulations, and issuing veto threats to bipartisan jobs bills.”

By reading the tweets send out by Democrats and Republicans during last night’s State of the Union Address, both parties say they want to work together, but both disagree strongly on issues like taxes, the economy, raising the minimum wage, immigration reform and national security.
