A former Kentucky lawmaker, who is spending life in prison for the death of his ex-fiance, has been granted another hearing.
Steve Nunn is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Amanda Ross in 2009. In a letter to the Associated Press, Nunn claims his attorneys misguided him to enter a guilty plea to avoid the death penalty. Fayette Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine will allow him to plead his case later this month. He is also appealing a $24 million wrongful death liability against him.
Nunn has released this written statement: "I have a great deal to say about both of these issues, but I believe it is best for me to withhold comment until a more appropriate time, where the facts and circumstances will best illustrate the truth."
An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for October 30.
