Berea Gears Up For Another Fairness Debate

kftc.org

Berea officials are expecting a packed house Tuesday, as the city council once again takes up the issue of a Fairness Ordinance.

It’s a debate that’s been simmering in Berea for more than three years.

Now the council is ready to hear from residents again at a fairness forum Tuesday night. The ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, and public accommodations is scheduled for a second reading Oct. 7.

More than 400 marchers demonstrated in favor of the law three years ago and the city is anticipating another capacity crowd Tuesday.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
