Ashland Estate Hosting Annual Croquet Fundraiser Sunday

Chernobyl, forestall, and Irish Peel:  What do these words have in common?

They are all associated with the sport of croquet

You can work on the finer points of the game this Sunday on the lawn of Ashland the Henry Clay Estate in Lexington.

The one-time home of the Great Compromiser is again hosting a one day tournament for all ages and skill levels.  Ashland spokesperson Christina Bell says the competition is open to any duo that can swing a mallet.

"We can accommodate sixty-four teams of two players each," said Ashland spokesperson Christina Bell.  "We currently have fifty-eight signed up.  If you're looking to have a good time on Sunday.  No experience or equipment is necessary, just a fun, competitive spirit," Bell told WUKY.

Teams will be vying for a trophy and of course, bragging rights.

Bell said technically, there is no dress code but "we'd love everybody to dress in white, but it's not required.  We are going to give away prizes for best dressed gentleman and best dressed lady."

Teams can register for $50.  Proceeds benefit Ashland the Henry Clay Estate.

The event gets under way Sunday at 1 p.m.
