Parents To Offer Opinions On School Attendance Zone Changes

Parents will have their first chance to weigh in on the Fayette County Public Schools' attendance rezoning process Thursday night.

With the system outgrowing its current facilities and three new schools in the works, a representative committee is examining what changes need to made in order to accommodate the new facilities and provide for an even distribution of students throughout the district.

"The committee was established in April and they have met three times, but have not done any substantive work. They've begun looking at data, history, policies, and they have no even started talking about maps or zoning or anything. Before they really got into their work, they wanted to hear from our community," district spokesperson Lisa Deffendall says.

To that end, two meetings have been scheduled for public input – one Thursday night from 6-8 at Bryan Station High School and another July 10 from 6-8 at Lafayette High School.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
