New Memorial Being Built In Frankfort Honors National Guard

Memorial Day held special meaning yesterday as ground was broken for the new memorial for the National Guard in Frankfort.

About 100 National Guard members, with shovels in hand, turned over the earth where the National Guard Memorial will stand.  They were joined by dozens of family members who have lost loved ones serving in Kentucky’s National Guard.

The National Guard Memorial will feature Daniel Boone standing tall in front of a 22 foot sculpture of the Commonwealth and will be visible from U.S. 127 from the front of the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort.  The $1.3 million dollar project is scheduled to be completed in time for Veterans Day on November 11th.
