Plans For Second CentrePointe Hotel Approved

CentrePointe developers announced the addition of a second hotel on the same block set to house a Marriott.

The changes were part of a presentation developers made before the Courthouse Area Design Review Board Wednesday. The new extended stay hotel would occupy space previously intended for an apartments along Main and Upper Streets.

The latest addition would take up five floors of the twelve-story building, leaving six floors for the proposed apartment complex and one floor of retail space along the bottom.

While generally supportive of the changes, board member Graham Pohl objected to plans for the ground level.

"I feel that the one story projection of the retail block is inappropriate. It's not tall enough for the context. It's a good effort, but it's not the right scale," he told the panel.

Developer Dudley Webb called Pohl’s comments constructive.

"Most of the stuff he raised we talked about. And in fact his concerns about the first level of the apartment building on Main Street... we had talked before about adding canopies up there and greenery to make it look like a balcony, which it would be," Webb told reporters.

The latest revisions passed – with Pohl supplying the only no vote.

Webb says the company is still on track to complete the office building by June 2015 with the hotels to follow in the fall.
