Lexington, KY – Police are investigating the sale of school-owned instruments on eBay by East Jessamine County High School's band director. No charges have been filed yet, but an audit is underway.
Authorities are trying to figure out how 5 to 7-thousand dollars worth of instruments at East Jessamine County High School wound up on internet auction site eBay. The man suspected of selling the instruments, East Jessamine band director Rex Payton, has been suspended. Nicholasville Police Sgt. Scott Harvey says police are working to determine what's missing and expect to file charges next week.
Police were tipped off when one of the buyers found a "Property of Jessamine County Schools" label on one of the instruments. According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Payton, who also taught at West Jessamine County High School, was cited by police for loitering for the purpose of prostitution in May of 2009.
