Lexington, KY – The man overseeing UK Hospital's 532 million dollar expansion still has a very long checklist

"Electronics delivered April first, glass installed April Twenty-fifth the gingko will arrive April twentieth, get installed April twenty- fifth, the mosaics arrive March fourteenth and get installed the week of April eleventh "

But UK Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Michael Karpf says the project is on schedule and about 1 percent under budget. On Wednesday Dr. Karpf took members of the media on a dizzying tour of what he says will be the gold standard of patient care in Kentucky for the next century.

"This is the best clinical floor you'll see anyplace in the country right now. The size of the rooms the flexibility of the rooms we've invested a tremendous amount of money keeping the bathrooms outside of the room. That gives us flexibility. These rooms have to remain functional for the next one hundred years."

The hospital complex also includes public areas for art, a 305 seat performance auditorium, and native Kentucky landscaping. The 1.2 million square foot Albert B. Chandler Hospital will accept its first patients on May 22nd.
