LONDON, Ky. -- – Saint Joseph Health System is adding to its network of Kentucky medical facilities. Bishop Ronald Gainer dedicated a new hospital in London Wednesday morning.
At 340,000 square feet, spokesman Jeff Murphy says the new hospital is nearly twice the size of Saint Joseph's existing Laurel County facility.
"We're also adding 30 patient beds to have a total of 120 beds and all of the rooms will be private rooms. There are beautiful surroundings, there's a lake on the 52-acre campus, there's a healing garden that's being designed by Jon Carloftis, there's outdoor dining. It really is a stunning facility."
Murphy says talks are underway between Saint Joseph and the city on what do with the existing hospital space located in downtown London.
The new $152-million hospital opens to patients on August 19.
